Children love watching seeds germinate. This is especially true when seeds germinate quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is a straightforward to grow seed that can begin to sprout within a week. To observe the seeds sprout by sprinkling a few alfalfa seeds on a piece of wet paper towel.
What you will need:
A packet of seeds from alfalfa (about 1.5g)
A small dish or زراعة بذور الملوخية saucer
Three paper towels
an air mister, or a small water Jug
How to Grow:
Wet 3 pieces of paper towel and set them on top of one another flat on a platter.
Drain the water from the plate. The paper towel must be damp, but the seeds shouldn’t sit in water.
Sprinkle the seeds in a thick layer on the towel.
Place the dish on a window with a bright sun and water to stop the towel from drying. To dampen seeds, utilize a spray bottle or mister. Also, add water into the saucer with the help of a small jug or cup.
You should check your seeds daily to check how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are easy to grow and will germinate within 2-6 days. Here are some signs to keep an eye on if your seeds don’t germinate within this time.
Too dry. Seeds require water to grow. Alfalfa seeds soak approximately half their weight in water prior to they sprout, making them appear swollen. Seeds that are too dry are not able to develop. Add more water to the plate so the seeds are moist, but not floating in the water. It is also possible to soak the seeds over night; but be sure to drain and rinse them off with fresh water prior to spreading them out on the towel.
Too moist Seeds that are wet may cause their roots as well as their shoots to turn brown before they develop. Also, it is possible that mould will start to grow on the seeds. Although it’s fine for the paper towel and seeds to remain damp, they shouldn’t be submerged in water. Drain excess water from the plate each time you mist or water your seeds.
Too hot or cold: The best temperature for alfalfa to grow is 20-25degC. If you’re cultivating your seeds inside in winter, you should place them in a warm place. If you’re growing your seeds in very hot temperatures, it is possible to water the seeds more often since they’ll dry out faster.
